Welcome to the heart of MIMIRS SAUM, where historical accuracy meets traditional craftsmanship. In our Artisan's Corner, discover the careful process behind each hand-sewn Viking Age garment we create.
The Art of Viking Age Craftsmanship | MIMIRS SAUM
Our Journey: Each stitch we make is guided by archaeological findings from the Viking Age period (793-1066 CE). Unlike mass-produced or modern interpretations, every MIMIRS SAUM garment is hand-sewn using historically accurate techniques and 100% natural materials. We work primarily with wool and linen in documented colors, while silk - a precious import during the Viking Age - is used for accessories and small decorative elements on garments, just as it was historically.
Our Commitment to Authenticity: • Archaeological Evidence: Each design is based on actual historical findings • Traditional Techniques: Every garment is hand-sewn using period-appropriate methods • Natural Materials: Historically accurate fabrics and colors • Historical Accuracy: Careful attention to construction methods and patterns
Custom Orders: While we offer standard sizes, we understand that each person's needs are unique. Our custom order service allows for specific adjustments while maintaining historical accuracy. Whether you're a seasoned reenactor or new to historical garments, we're here to help create your perfect Viking Age wardrobe.
Join us in preserving and celebrating the craftsmanship of the Viking Age through historically accurate, hand-sewn garments that stand the test of time.
Our Story | MIMIRS SAUM
Our Story | MIMIRS SAUM
MIMIRS SAUM's story is woven with threads of destiny, craftsmanship, and shared vision. What began as two separate journeys - a Polish seamstress from Bolszewo near Gdańsk and a Norwegian reenactor from Verdal who trained with the Vedrar group at Stiklestad - became intertwined in the historic city of Bergen, where fate had other plans.
Our Beginning: From a young age, a fascination with history and mythology has been the heartbeat of MIMIRS SAUM. Growing up with family-taught hand-sewing traditions in Poland, these skills would later become the foundation of our craft. Meanwhile, in Verdal, Norway, historical fighting and reenactment were shaping another path through training with Vedrar at Stiklestad.
Where Dreams Unite: Bergen became more than just a meeting point - it became the birthplace of our shared dream. Here, as members of Kongshirden1260, we discovered that our individual passions could grow into something greater. Together, we envisioned a workshop that would not only create authentic Viking Age garments but also serve as a beacon of knowledge for the living history community.
Our Mission: Beyond crafting historically accurate garments, MIMIRS SAUM embodies our shared commitment to: • Elevating standards in historical reenactment • Sharing knowledge about Viking Age craftsmanship • Supporting the living history community • Preserving traditional hand-sewing techniques • Educating about historical accuracy
Our Workshop: Today, in our Bergen workshop, every piece we create carries this dedication to authenticity. Each garment is hand-sewn using traditional techniques and natural materials, just as they were during the Viking Age (793-1066 CE). Our work combines: • Historical accuracy from archaeological findings • Traditional hand-sewing techniques • Natural materials in documented colors • Practical knowledge from reenactment experience
Our Community: As active members of Kongshirden1260, we continue to test our garments in authentic settings - from historical markets to combat practice. This practical experience ensures our creations are both historically accurate and functional for modern reenactors.
Join us in preserving and celebrating the craftsmanship of the Viking Age through historically accurate, hand-sewn garments that stand the test of time.
